Rabbit Diet
Your rabbit’s diet is crucial to their health, They can’t just live on carrots! A well-balanced diet will keep them healthy and is essential to their well-being.
The main part of your rabbit’s diet should be timothy hay. It should be provided in unlimited quantities, it should be available to your rabbit at all times. The amount of vegetables you feed your rabbit depends on their weight, but 1 cup of veggies for every 4 lbs. works well. Make sure to feed them a variety of vegetables, and that some of them are rich in vitamin A. Introduce any new veggies gradually. Most of the veggies should be leafy greens. Here are some good leafy greens for rabbits:
- Cilantro
- Parsley
- Basil
- Romaine lettuce
- Dandelion leaves
Pellets: Rabbits should be given about 1/4 a cup of pellets for every 4 lbs. The pellets should be made from hay, and be high in fiber. Make sure there are no seeds or flowers.
Treats: Rabbits enjoy treats, but should only be given them in small amounts. 1 tsp of treats for 4 lbs. works well. Here are some good treats
- Carrots
- Banana
- Apple (remove seeds, since they are toxic.)
- Orange
- Grapes
- Cantaloupe
